What is the EO/EH Science Fair?

fox.png

Every year, we put on a voluntary-participation science fair for all Eastover and East Hills students, grades K-8. Students pick their own topic — the theme we provide is optional — and research, experiment, or invent something.

The fair is only one night, Tuesday, February 25, 2020, and is an exhibition, not a competition. Students get to present and discuss their work, answer questions, and receive feedback from adults in S.T.E.A.M. fields.

It's a fantastic event and we would love to have you participate this year!

Follow these 3 steps:

STEP 1: Choose a Project Type

EXPERIMENT — See what happens!
Start with a question, then hypothesize, plan, conduct your experiment, and analyze the results.
INVENTCreate something new!
Dream up something that solves a real life problem — could be new or improves an existing item. Brainstorm, sketch, prototype, test, and tweak it until it's exactly the way you want it.
RESEARCHLearn about something and explain it!
Pick a problem that someone has already solved. Read, consult experts, gather information, then write it up and display it with drawings, photos, charts, graphs, dioramas, etc. (There is no required length or format for the report.)

STEP 2: Fill out the Online Sign-Up Form

STEP 3: Create your Project & Show Up!

Bring your idea to life any way you'd like. (The BTPL has great resources and librarians to help!) Then bring everything with you to EHMS on Tues, Feb 25, 2020 @ 6:00pm

6-6:30p — Set up your projects

6:30p — Science Fair begins

6:45-8p — Show off get feedback, eat FREE popcorn, & more!

8p — Go home (please don't forget to take your project!) *

*You are not required to stay the entire time.

THE FINE PRINT + ANSWERS TO FAQs:
  • The theme "Animals" is only a suggestion and may be disregarded if desired.
  • This is an exhibition, not a competition. The projects will not be ranked and prizes will not be awarded.
  • Project displays typically include a tri-fold display board, a report, and may  include physical objects. You can bring laptops/tablets, but you are responsible for these items throughout the evening and you may need to bring a backup battery/power supply as we cannot guarantee your proximity to a plug.
  • Please DO NOT bring candy, other food items, or trinkets as give-aways.

GUIDELINES ABOUT ANIMALS:

Since this year's Science Fair and Art Exhibit has an animal-based theme, any animals brought to the science fair must be:

  • kept in their cages/tanks or on a leash

  • safe for school

  • have a direct connection to a science fair project

  • Also note that you will be responsible for the care, safety, and clean-up throughout the entire event

If you are planning to bring an animal, we would appreciate you letting us know.

If you are unsure about your animal in any way, just ask!

And if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us via the Questions form at the bottom of this page.

Thank you!
